Losing My Sight, Not My Strength – The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge
"Three mountains. 24 miles. One woman facing sight loss—step by step. Follow my journey as I take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge."
I never thought I'd be doing something like this. But here I am, training to take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge—a 24-mile trek over three mountains, all while losing my vision.
I have Stargardt’s Disease, a progressive eye condition that is slowly taking my sight. Every day, I adapt to new challenges—navigating a world that is becoming harder to see. But this challenge? This one, I’ve chosen.
Why I’m Doing This
I’m not just doing this for myself—I’m doing it to support the Macular Society, a charity that helps people like me who are losing their sight. When I first needed answers, they were there. Now, I want to make sure they can keep helping others.
The Challenge
On the first May Bank Holiday, I’ll be setting off to climb Pen-y-ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough—not in one day like most, but over two, to adapt to my eyesight limitations. Light and dark affect my vision, so I’ll be walking when it’s safest, with an incredible support team by my side.
I want to show that sight loss doesn’t mean giving up. That we all face obstacles, but we can find ways around them.
How You Can Help
💡 Donate: If you can, please support my journey by donating to the Macular Society through my JustGiving page. Every pound helps keep vital support services running.
📢 Share: If you can’t donate, sharing this with your network is just as powerful. The more people who see this, the more we can help.
I’ll be sharing my training, thoughts, and experiences in the lead-up to the challenge. If you want to follow along, subscribe to this Substack and let’s do this together.
Thank you for your support—it means the world. ❤️
